Dan Hershman

Dan Hershman currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Berthoud Fire Protection District. He is a 5th generation resident of Berthoud and Larimer County. Dan enlisted as a volunteer with the department in 1976. He was inspired by his father’s nearly 20 years of service with the fire department.
In his volunteer capacity with the District, he served as the Communications Officer, Training Officer, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief of the Berthoud Fire Protection District. During his time on the Board of Directors, he has played an active role in the growth and development of Berthoud Fire Protection District .
Dan brings a wealth of experience to his position as Board President. Early in his career he supervised a commercial / residential construction and property management business. In 1986 he began working for Boulder County as Director of Boulder County Road and Bridge Department. He supervised the maintenance, development and repair of over 700 miles of roadway. Hershman was a Boulder County Reserve Deputy for 26 years serving as the unit Lieutenant and Commander. Currently he is volunteering with the Sheriff’s Office. Dan is a commercial pilot and flew the Boulder Sheriff’s department aircraft for prisoner extraditions, aerial support, drug interdiction and surveillance. In addition,
Dan is committed to maintaining the District’s ISO rating, currently the fire district is in the top 3 percent of all United States fire departments. The ISO rating is of great importance and directly affects resident’s commercial and residential fire insurance premiums.
